Flounder fishing is getting better in the creeks, surf and on the offshore reefs. Most fish are in the 17-20 inch class with a good number of 4 and 5 pounders being caught. Sheephead fisihng has been good especially at night. This week alone we have weighed two fish over 9 pounds. Spanish mackerel are on the beach. Best fishing is early and late due to the heat. Some pompano are in the surf and should get better as we head iinto fall. Red drum can found in the creeks and surf.
Near Shore 08/20/2010
Big red drum have been caught on the nearshore reefs such as Dallas Rock, Ten Mile Rock and Schoolhouse. These fish are over slot size and must be released. King mackerel fishing is a little slow but the 10-25 mile range seems to be the best. Some mahi and sailfish remain in the same areas. Amberjack at the Schoolhouse and WR4. Seabass and grouper can be had as close as 18 miles but 25-35 miles is better. African Pompano are at Frying Pan Tower.
